Archery GB Handicap (2023 scheme)

Lower handicap is better. This is an Archery GB system — not a World Archery rating.

Calculator

Handicap: 44

How it works

A handicap compresses skill into one number so you can compare scores across rounds. The 2023 Archery GB model grows expected group size by about 3.5% per handicap point.

Sight marks are fit to your own data — we do not model arrow speed or sight geometry. Use the table as a starting point only.

Formula

σr = 100 · R · 1.035^(H+6) · 5×10⁻⁴ · e^(0.00365·R)   (R in metres, σr in cm)
avg arrow = 10 − Σ exp(−(n·D/20 + a)² / σr²)   (10-zone face, diameter D cm)
Table score = ceil(round score)

Worked example

On WA 720 70m, a score of 500 corresponds to handicap 44; handicap 30 predicts a table score of about 596.

FAQ

Is this World Archery? No — Archery GB handicap (2023). Older 0–100 schemes use different maths.

Why green / amber / red on sight marks? Interpolation is safest; extrapolation far beyond your known distances can be wrong — always shoot a real mark to check.
